The Motorway

Motorways are designed to help you get your destination as quickly as possible but speed and safety come at a price. Long journeys on motorways can dull your concentration. A typical motorway

Motorways are probably relatively safe, They are straight, have no oncoming traffic, no right turns and no roundabouts, but when accidents occur they can be quite severe because of the higher speeds involved.

Another reason why motorways are safer is the fact that certain types of traffic are restricted from them. You will not find pedestrians, cyclists, mopeds, learner drivers (except HGV), agricultural vehicles or animals.

Our Motorway course teaches you from the following topics:

  • Joining and leaving
  • Recognition and response to signs/markings
  • Lane discipline
  • Changing lanes
  • Distance from other vehicles
  • Adverse weather conditions
  • Awareness and reaction
  • Overtaking
  • Planning journey
  • Fatigue
  • Breakdowns and safety procedure.
Temporary speed limit advised While teaching you aspects of motorway driving from the list above you will also be taught what you cannot do on motorways, such as no reversing, no driving in the wrong direction and no crossing the central reservation. End of Motorway
